  1. EXAMPLE

    Title: Help Me Hokey Poke

    Questions To Consider:
    1. How does this child follow the directions for this activity?
    2. In what ways is he able to move his body during the song?
    3. How much assistance does he need to move the correct body part?

    Why is this Important:
As a child learns to understand oral directions, he may need visual cues and physical assistance to fully understand what is being
asked of him. Keeping directions simple and easy to illustrate through action helps to ensure that this child will readily grasp each
small step as it is introduced.

    Materials and Preparation - Materials:
    large mirror
recording of the Hokey Pokey song (optional)

    Step-by-step procedure-What To Do:
    1. Place the mirror against the wall so that this child will be able to see himself.
    2. Invite him to sing the Hokey Pokey song with you in front of the mirror. You may want to listen to the song or sing it one time
    before introducing the motions.
    3. Sing the song as you do the movements with this child. You may need to tap the body part that this child should move.
    4. Observe which movements are more challenging for this child, such as putting one foot out in front of him. Offer support for
    any movements he finds difficult.
    5. Remind him to listen to the song to know what to do next. This child, let's listen to find out what we do after we turn around.
    6. When finished, sing the song again, making the tempo faster or slower to reflect this child's ability to follow along.
    7. You can extend this activity by adding new lyrics and movements to the song for this child to follow.

Concept: students will learn how to create Christmas books by mixing different properties of substances together to create unique art.

    Small Group Activity

    Objectives:
    Students will be able to
Demonstrate fine motor strength and coordination by using their fingers
Use appropriate conversational and other communication skills by engaging in conversations.
Demonstrate positive approaches to learning by showing curiosity and motivation

    Large plastic rectangular tray
Pre-cut tissue paper cut-out trees, stockings, and snowmans
    Liquid soap
    Sheets of paper
    Glue sticks
    Crafty strings

How Will I Introduce the Lesson:
    Review the four seasons.
Introduce the holidays that happens during winter.
Elaborate on Chrismas and some of the things that we see at Christmas like the stockings, trees, snowman, etc.
    Singing Christmas songs

    Step-by-step Procedures:
Fill small cups with ½ cup of milk and hand them to students.
Once the cups are filled pull out the large rectangular tray and have students pour milk inside of the tray carefully.
Hand each student a food coloring dye color and have them drop multiple drops of each color in random spots throughout the tray.
Next squeeze liquid soap into the mixture. You should notice a change in the look and the chemical reaction taking place.
Take the sheet of paper and lay it flat on top of the water and move it slowing and gently across the water.
Carefully lift the paper from the water and let it air dry for at least an hour.
After drying is complete fold the paper in half. Then have student glue snowmans, stockings, and Christmas trees on the book.
Finish the book by adding the crafty string to the inside fold of the book and tie them straight.

    Follow-up:

I will add Christmas trees, stockings with students names on them, and snowmans around the classroom. I will also add Christmas books as well as play Christmas music.
